Geb A Ride Code of Ethics

Geb A Ride is a community chesed service. Its success depends on riders and drivers treating one another considerately and respecting every confirmed arrangement.

1. Be ready before the driver arrives

Never make a driver wait. This is the most common complaint and a major reason volunteers stop offering rides. If a rider cannot be ready on time, the rider should cancel and try again later.

2. Babies and car seats

Do not assume that a driver has a child safety seat. A responsible adult must bring a legally appropriate seat, such as a properly used Doona or another suitable car seat. Violations can create serious penalties for the driver and remain on the driver’s record for years.

3. No eating

Do not eat in the vehicle. This applies especially to children traveling with the rider. Members must respect the driver’s vehicle.

4. Keep telephone calls limited

Avoid telephone conversations during the ride unless the call is time-sensitive and brief.

5. Keep conversation considerate

Avoid extended passenger conversations that may distract the driver or make the driver uncomfortable.

6. Do not pressure drivers for extras

Do not ask the driver to wait, make an unscheduled stop, manually collect a package, or perform favors outside the confirmed arrangement. Drivers may feel uncomfortable refusing, and repeated pressure discourages volunteers from offering future rides.

7. Enforcement

Administrators may review complaints and may warn, suspend, or remove a member who violates these standards or puts others at risk.

Acceptance of this Code of Ethics is required for every member and applies whenever the service is used.
